Georgetown: meet your new industrial neighbor
According to this post up on the Seattle Industry website, we're about to have a new neighbor:
Ballard Brass is owned by Steve and Mark Morel, who pursue a family trade that goes back to 19th Century France and their grandfather, Leon Morel Sr., who started as an apprentice at the famed Rudier Foundry outside Paris...
Today’s customer list reflects the history of both the Morel and Ballard foundries, including specialized castings for boats and ships as well as prototypes for machine manufacturers and a growing volume of “green” manufacturers. On a recent work day, the 24-person workforce turned out prototypes for a new oil pan developed for John Deere tractors, the Stirling engine brackets and a new product for a local company that specializes in making high-end “green” hardware and home furnishings.
The company's move to a bigger building in Georgetown will enable the Morels to expand beyond prototype production and add new assembly lines for tempered aluminum castings and metal parts that must be sealed to hold air, water and other fluids.
A source tells me that the destination is a building near 6th Ave and Lucile. Their current location is in Ballard.
Is this the beginning of "industrial flight" from Interbay and Ballard?
