NASCAR Driver Reutimann Tests at Infineon Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. (March 5, 2008)
NASCAR driver David Reutimann visited Infineon Raceway for the first time on Wednesday and he was surprised by the challenges of the twisting 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course.
Reutimann came to the track for a one-day test session before his first race start in the Sonoma Valley at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event, June 20-22. Currently in his second year of full-time Cup Series competition, he was replaced by road-course specialist P.J. Jones for the Infineon Raceway event in 2007.
The visit also marked Reutimann’s first trip to the Sonoma Valley and Northern California, and he was quite taken with the rolling hills and beautiful landscape.
“This track is pretty tricky. It’s a really neat layout with all of the elevation changes. It’s a lot to take on, but it’s a great track,” said Reutimann. “It’s a beautiful area. I’ve never been here before, and it’ll be great to come back in June.”
Reutimann, driver of the No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing, piloted a GT America stock car supplied by Pioneer Motorsports out of Lake Oroville. He was coached by road-course veteran Chris Cook and completed approximately 90 laps in the full-day test.
“David, even with his limited road-course experience, is that good. He can be a contender on the road courses. He progressed all day long and finished at a very high level,” said Cook, who has also worked with NASCAR drivers Johnny Sauter, Paul Menard and Los Gatos native AJ Allmendinger.
