The Toronto Blue Jays need Lyle Overbay to rebound in 2008
The Toronto Blue Jays need Lyle Overbay to rebound from a poor, injury filled 2007 season. Overbay played in 122 games last season for the Blue Jays and he was 102 for 425 (.240 avg, .706 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 10 homers and 44 RBIs. The Blue Jays need Overbay to hit like his career norms of .284 with a .816 OPS in 694 career games. If Overbay doesn’t make a good comeback, Matt Stairs will likely take away some of his playing time.
40-year old lefty swinging Matt Stairs still has some sting left in his bat. He played in 125 games for the Blue Jays last season and he was 103 for 357 (.289 avg, .917 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 21 homers and 64 RBIs. Stairs is not the best defender in the world as first base but as long as he keeps swinging the bat like he did last season….it won’t matter.
